The PGA Tour returns in less than two weeks and with world number 1 Tiger Woods still out of action following knee surgery, the focus will turn to a host of other top players including Sergio Garcia, who is currently ranked number 2 in the world. Garcia will be coming off of an impressive season in which he won the Players Championship, which was the biggest win of his career, and finished second in such tournaments as the Barclays, the Tour Championship, and the PGA Championship. In addition, by the end of the season, Garcia seemingly appeared to have a new outlook on the game of golf. For example, following his 2nd place finish two years ago in the British Open, Garcia angered many when he blamed “the golf gods” for his loss; however, after finishing 2nd in the PGA Championship last season, he seemed to have a much more optimistic outlook on his game.

Next season will be a test for Garcia as he will be starting the season with his career high world ranking (2nd), a ranking that could improve if he has a hot start to the season. That’s right…Sergio Garcia can pass Tiger as the number 1 player in the world if he can take advantage of Tiger’s absence in the beginning of the season. In addition, Garcia will look to rid himself of the cursed title of “Best Player Without a Major Victory” next season. He has had several close calls in the past few years; but, look for him to have the best shot at the Open Championship, a tournament in which he has historically done very well. But for someone who has become known for buckling under pressure, the question remains. Will he finally be able to perform under pressure?
