The 2009 WTA tennis season will soon be upon us; so, I decided to give a preview of it’s glamour girl’s upcoming season. Serbian tennis star Ana Ivanovic had a very impressive 2008, as she won the French Open and was number 1 in the world. After becoming number 1, however, her season began to unravel and she eventually finished the year at number 5. During this rough patch in her season, Ivanovic was criticized by many who believed that she had trouble handeling the pressure of being number 1.

Ivanovic will look to improve this season and she is already in Australia preparing to for the first major of the season, the Australian Open. Her personal life, however, has been much more visible during the offseason than her training regiment, as Ivanovic has frequently been spotted with Spanish tennis player Fernando Verdasco. She was also recently spotted with Australian golfer Adam Scott. Her countrywoman Jelena Jankovic, on the other hand, has been all business and has been spotted training quite often. Only time will tell which Serbian superstar is better prepared for the season to come.

I expect Ivanovic to have a solid, but not spectacular, season. In all likelihood, she will win the French Open; however, I do not see her winning any other majors. With her inability to perform in the clutch, coupled with the comeback of the Williams sisters, Ivanovic will probably be happy to remain ranked in the top 5 at the end of the season.
