For the second week in a row, number 4 ranked Scotsman Andy Murray has defeated Roger Federer. While last week was in an exhibition tournament, this latest victory was in the Qatar Open, a key tune-up tournament before the first major of the season, the Australian Open. Murray beat former number 1 ranked player Federer 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-2. It was his fourth straight win over the Swiss superstar. After the match, Murray spoke about his victory, stating that  “It is good to have beaten him. He is an awesome player, arguably the greatest player of all time. So, I am happy about my performance today. … The first set was very tight as the tiebreak was bit of a back-and-forth thing for both of us. I lost that and all of a sudden there was a lot of pressure on me.”

When commenting about a disappointing match where he committed 4 double-faults and didn’t have more winners than unforced errors, Federer said that “Andy is a tough player against me. I hope when big matches come, I beat him.” This loss stopped Federer from taking advantage of rival Rafael Nadal’s exit in the quarterfinals.

The final will be played tomorrow and it will be the battle of the Andys, with Andy Murray facing American Andy Roddick, who defeated Gael Monfils in the semifinals.

UPDATE: Murray easily defeated Andy Roddick in the final of the Qatar Open.
