Last December, Petter Solberg was told that Subaru would no longer be participating in the World Rally Championship, but after months of hard work, Solberg was able to create his own private team called World Rally Team, Solberg. Only one week after unveiling his new team, Solberg finds in the lead after the first stage of Rally Norway. The Norwegian, who was in a Citroen Xsara WRC, finished the stage in one minute and 32.8 seconds with a run that he could only describe as “really good fun.”

Mikko Hirvonen is in second place, 0.6 seconds behind Solberg, and Sebastien Loeb is in third, only 0.1 seconds behind Hirvonen.

Loeb, who is the five-time defending WRC champion, believes that Solberg will be a title threat this season, as he said that  “I think he might be able to fight for victory again.”
