Nadal was in Madrid today to announce his new sponsor, Mapfire, and he used the occasion to speak about the injury that hampered him in the final of Rotterdam, where he lost to Andy Murray in three sets. Many people believed that the injury was linked to the right knee injury that he sustained at the end of last season; however, Nadal said that is not the case.

“It’s not the knee, so there’s no worry about that,” Nadal said. “I’m sure I will recover quickly. It’s nothing similar to last year. It’s a lot less worrisome, let’s hope. It isn’t the knee, it’s lower down. It’s a strain on a tendon that above all else stops me from serving well, but we are almost certain there won’t be any problems. It won’t be a problem for the Davis Cup. It’s just a question of having a little rest. I also expect to be in Dubai but we shall see.”

“It’s a result of a combination of things, from fatigue to the change of playing surface,” Ruiz-Cotorro said. “There are few tennis players who don’t go out onto the court without some kind of nag, or problem.”

Nadal wouldn’t say if he would be able to play in Dubai, which begins next Monday, but he did say that he would be able to play in Spain’s upcoming Davis Cup match against Serbia.

Here is video of him at the presentation of his new sponsor in Madrid.
