Andy Roddick announed that he will not compete in Dubai due to the scandal involving the UAE’s refusal to give Israeli player Shahar Peer a visa, which would allow her to compete in the event.

“I really didn’t agree with what went on over there,” Roddick told Saturday’s Los Angeles Times. “I don’t know if it’s the best thing to mix politics and sports, and that was probably a big part of it.”

This is huge blow to the tournament, as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Fernando Verdasco had already withdrew due to injury.

Good for Roddick, stand up for the sport and it’s athletes!
