Providence Downs Pitt

The Pittsburgh Panthers are the latest team to rise to the number one ranking only to lose in their next game. Pitt lost to the Providence Friars 81-73, who were firing on all cylinders from the start of the first half.

Weyinmi Efejuku scored 16 points for Providence, who at one point in the game had a 20 point lead over the number one team in the country.

Pittsburgh star DeJuan Blair said that the Pitt Panthers weren’t playing as well as they could have. “It was just terrible. We didn’t play as us,” said Blair, who fouled out in the final minute of the game.”They deserved [it]. We gave them that game.”

This game will likely have a major impact on both team’s seasons. Pittsburgh was a part of a four-way tie for the Big East lead, but they will now need to deliver when they play Marquette and UConn in their final two games if they want any chance of winning the conferance. Providence, on the other hand, may have very well secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament with this win. They are now in seventh place in the best conferance in the country with only two games remaining (@Rutgers, @Villanova).
