Padraig Harrington suffered the first major upset of the day when he lost to Pat Perez.

Tiger Woods proved today that he is definitely ready to get back to his winning ways on tour, as he defeated his first round opponent Brendan Jones 3-and-2. Woods looked sharp during the match, which he led from start to finish. After the match, he said that “It felt like nothing had changed. Walking down the fairway, it felt like business as usual. I thought I would be more nervous on the first tee. I thought it would take me a bit longer to get into the right rhythm of the round and try and find it, but I came out and it felt good.”

Woods will face Tim Clark in the second round.

Two of the other number one seeds, however, did not have the same result as Woods. Sergio Garcia, who is the second ranked player in the world, lost to the South African Charl Schwartzel. Schwartzel won the first three holes with birdies, but he gave back that advantage on the fifth-seventh holes with a bogey-bogey-double bogey run.  Garcia was constantly playing catch-up and in the end, it ended up costing him the match. Garcia’s Ryder Cup teammate, Padraig Harrington, was the first number one seed to fall in the first round. Harrington never led in his match against Pat Perez and he never seemed to have the right rhythm.

There are several intriguing second round matchups. Here are just a few of the matches to watch:

-Rory Mcilroy vs. Hunter Mahan

-Vijay Singh vs. Luke Donald

-Lee Westwood vs. Stewart Cink

-Anthony Kim vs. Oliver Wilson
