Venus Wins Acapulco, Djokovic Triumphs in Dubai

Venus Williams took the title in Acapulco Sunday by defeating Flavia Pennetta 6-1, 6-2. Willams has won her last two tournaments, which were played on different surfaces, and has won 19 of her last 20 matches. With defending champion Ana Ivanovic playing poorly, Venus may be one to watch at the French Open later this year. Williams will next play with her sister, as well as, Serbian stars Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic at the BNP Paribas Billie Jean King Cup tonight in a one night single elimination exhibition tournament at the Madison Square Garden.

Speaking of Serbian stars, Novak Djokovic took the title in Dubai on Sunday by defeating David Ferrer 7-5, 6-3. This was his first title of the year. After the match, he commented on his play by saying that “(This week) I played a very good game, very good tennis, and I’m very happy. Maybe this week I found my tennis. This week, I enjoyed the tennis. I’m happy with my tennis.” This was a big win for Djokovic, who has a lot of points to defend in the coming weeks and has Andy Murray closing in on him for the number 3 ranking.
