Davis Cup Roundup

BenidormThis week, the world of tennis is all about the first Davis Cup matches of the season. So, here is a quick overview of what has happened, thus far.

Spain vs. Serbia: The match that everyone has waited for will take place tomorrow and it will be an important one. Today, David Ferrer defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-3,6-3,7-6(3), but the real star of the show was the number one ranked player in the world, Rafael Nadal. Nadal showed, once again, why he is the King of Clay when he defeated Janko Tipsarevic 6-1,6-0,6-2, in what was one of the most lopsided matches that I have seen in a while. After the first two games of the match went to the server, Nadal went on to win the next 11. Luckily for Serbia, their doubles team of Viktor Troicki and Nenad Zimonjic defeated Feliciano Lopez and Tommy Robredo, to bring the overall score to 2-1. Tomorrow, in reverse singles, Nadal will face Djokovic in what could be the winning match for Spain.

USA vs. Switzerland: The United States team must be happy that they have one of the best doubles teams in the world on their side, as they have struggled against the Federer-less Swiss team. The overall score is 2-1, with reverse singles remaining tomorrow. Andy Roddick will face Stanislas Wawrinka tomorrow and James Blake wil face Marco Chiudinello.

Other Ties:
-Russia Leads Romania 2-1
-Czech Republic leads France 2-1
-Sweden leads Israel 2-1
-Germany leads Austria 2-1
-Argentina defeated Netherlands 3-0
-Croatia defeated Chile 3-0
