Speed Skater Shani Davis Breaks Record

Shani Davis by hans s.With the Olympics in Vancouver less than one year away, American speed skater Shani Davis has positioned himself as a gold medal favorite. On Saturday, Davis broke the world record for the 1,000m by clocking in a time of 1min 06.42sec, which beat the record previous record of 1:07.00. It had been held by Finnish speed skater Pekka Koskela.

On Friday, Davis won the 1,500m event in a world record 1:41.80.

In the 2006 Olympics, Davis won the gold medal in the 1000m and the silver in the 1500m. However, it looks like Davis will be the favorite to win the gold in both events in Vancouver.
