Rafael Nadal proved today that his Australian Open title was not a fluke, as he backed it up with another hard court championship at the BNP Paribas Open. Nadal was able to hit amazing shots that left his opponent, Andy Murray, baffled even though they played in very windy conditions. Murray had played well throughout the tournament, but he was clearly frustrated during  most of this match. During a week where Federer and Djokovic did not play up to the level that has become expected of them, one thing was constant this week. Rafael Nadal is the number one player in the world, and deservedly so.

Nadal’s 6-1,6-2 defeat of Murray gave him is 13th Masters Series Trophy and his 2nd BNP Paribas Open Title. This was Murray’s first loss against a top 10 opponent this season; nevertheless, by making the final, he will gain substantial ground on Novak Djokovic for the number 3 ranking.
