On what was a very windy day, Ana Ivanovic could not play well enough to beat the 4th seeded Vera Zvonareva, who won 7-6, 6-2. Ivanovic has struggled with her serve lately and that weakness was only more pronounced because of the wind. Ivanovic, who was the defending champion, had 5 double faults and her first serve percentage was only 57%. She also caught several of her ball tosses, some of which were way off course.

Zvonareva, on the other hand, was able to battle through the tough conditions to win her first Premier tournament on the WTA circuit. Ivanovic had her moments of greatness during the match, but she was not able to consistently play at a high level, which allowed Zvonareva to gain an advantage.

Zvonareva, who didn’t drop a set during the tournament, will now be number 5 in the world. Ivanovic will remain at number 7 in the world when the new rankings are released.
