Kim Clijsters Relentless in Brisbane, Defeats Garbin 6-2,6-1

Kim Clijsters may have completed her comeback at the US Open, but she isn’t looking to slow down anytime soon. Clijsters was dominant throughout the match and she seemed to do better as the match progressed, as she won 10 of the final 11 games. Her opponent, Tathiana Garbin, who was the oldest woman in the tournament, was not able to stop Clijsters who though she won convincingly wasn’t playing at her best. Her backhand, in particular, was not on point and at times she sprayed several shots as a result.

Clijsters told the Brisbane Times “There’s a few details that can always get better. But it’s just a nice feeling to be out there. I felt like my groundstrokes were going good, I felt like I was really on top of my baseline [game], really changing up the direction of the rallies.”

Clijsters will next face the winner of the Alicia Molik-Ekaterina Makarova first round match.
