Percy Harvin Wins AP Offensive Rookie of the Year

Harvin, who is a wide receiver and kick returner for the Minnesota Vikings, received 41 of the total 50 votes and to win the AP 2009 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award over Baltimore’s Michael Oher. Harvin, who was picked 22nd overall, has 790 reception yards, 135 rushing yards from 15 attempts, has averaged 27.5 yards on kickoffs, and eight touchdowns.

Harvin has been an integral part of Minnesota’s season and will need to play well if they want to have a deep playoff run.

“I call him Little Phenom,” said Adrian Peterson to the AP, he won the same award in 2007. “He’s got the heart of a lion when he’s out there playing.”

At times during the season, Harvin has battled with severe migraine headaches, but they obviously haven’t badly hindered his performance, thus far.

The remaining vote getters were Philadelphia receiver Jeremy Maclin, Denver RB Knowshon Moreno and Pittsburgh receiver Mike Wallace, each with one.
